Tattoos

A tattoo is a form of body modification, made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. The first written reference to the word, "tattoo" (or Samoan "Tatau") appears in the journal of Joseph Banks, the naturalist aboard Captain Cook's ship the HMS Endeavour:Tattooing has been practiced for centuries in many cultures spread throughout the world. The Oxford English Dictionary gives the etymology of tattoo as "In 18th c. tattaow, tattow. From Polynesian tatau. In Tahitian, tatu." The word tatau was introduced as a loan word into English, the pronunciation being changed to conform to English phonology as "tattoo".Sailors on later voyages both introduced the word and reintroduced the concept of tattooing to Europe.Tattoo enthusiasts may refer to tattoos as "ink", "tats", "art", "pieces", or "work"; and to the tattooists as "artists".Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since Neolithic times. Ötzi the Iceman, dating from the fourth to fifth millennium BC, was found in the Ötz valley in the Alps and had some 57 carbon tattoos consisting of simple dots and lines on his lower spine, behind his left knee, and on his right ankle. These tattoos were thought to be a form of healing because of their placement which resembles acupuncture.According to George Orwell, coal miners could develop characteristic tattoos owing to coal dust getting into wounds. This can also occur with substances like gunpowder.

Jeans

Jeans are trousers made from denim. Some of the earliest American blue jeans were made by Jacob Davis, Calvin Rogers, and Levi Strauss in 1873. Starting in the 1950s, jeans, originally designed for cowboys, became popular among teenagers.Historic brands include Levi's, Lee, and Wrangler. Jeans come in various fits, including skinny, tapered, straight, boot cut and flare.
Jeans are now a very popular form of casual dress around the world, and have been so for decades. They come in many styles and colors; however, "blue jeans" are particularly identified with American culture, especially the American Old West.Jeans, a.k.a. denim, was a fabric that originated in the Italian town of Genoa, and was used for sails because it was very sturdy. Because of its durability and resistance to wear, jeans started to be used to make clothing for peasants. The word "jeans" comes from the Italian word "genuense", literally "of Genoa" and from "jean": the local word used to denote corduroy. The oldest jeans in the world are the ones worn by Giuseppe Garibaldi in May 1860, they are preserved in the Museo Centrale del Risorgimento. In 1885, jeans could be bought in the US for $1.50 (approximately $36 in 2010). Today, a pair of durable jeans can be purchased in the United States for about 40 dollars.[4] On the other hand, many brands of jeans are currently available for much less. In the United States, there is a robust market for used jeans, and the prices obtained for these pre-owned jeans vary tremendously. As the price of cotton rises, the cost of blue jeans is expected to rise as well.
Americans spent more than $14 billion on jeans in 2004 and $15 billion in 2005.Traditionally, jeans are dyed to a blue color using an indigo dye. Some other colors that can be achieved are pink, yellow, black, and white. These colors are achieved by coloring other fabrics to resemble jeans. Approximately 20 million tons of indigo are produced annually for this purpose, though only a few grams of the dye are required for each pair of these trousers.

Lacoste

Lacoste is a French apparel company founded in 1933 that sells high-end clothing, footwear, perfume, leather goods, watches, eyewear, and most famously tennis shirts. In recent years, Lacoste has introduced a home line of sheeting and towels. The company can be recognized by its green crocodile logo.René Lacoste founded La Chemise Lacoste in 1933 with André Gillier, the owner and president of the largest French knitwear manufacturing firm at the time. They began to produce the revolutionary tennis shirt Lacoste had designed and worn on the tennis courts with the crocodile logo embroidered on the chest. Although the company claims this as the first example of a brand name appearing on the outside of an article of clothing, the "Jantzen girl" logo appeared on the outside of Jantzen Knitting Mills' swimsuits as early as 1921.In addition to tennis shirts, Lacoste produced shirts for golf and sailing. In 1951, the company began to expand as it branched from "tennis white" and introduced color shirts. In 1952, the shirts were exported to the United States and advertised as "the status symbol of the competent sportsman," influencing the clothing choices of the upper-class.n the early '50s, Bernard Lacoste teamed up with David Crystal, who at the time owned Izod, to produce Izod Lacoste clothing. In the 1970s and 1980s, it was extremely popular with teenagers who called the shirts simply Izod.

Juicy Couture

In 1995, Gela Nash (before marrying Duran Duran's John Taylor) and her friend Pamela Skaist-Levy started a line of maternity wear by successfully transforming plain vintage jeans into Travis Jeans. By 1997, having learned the basics of the fashion industry, they were ready to start a company of their own – but they didn’t take the standard route. From 1996, after establishing their company and needing to get public attention for the brand, Nash and Levy started to send their completed designs to celebrities. In 2001, the famous Juicy tracksuit was introduced and custom designed for Madonna[5]; and Madonna turned the velour tracksuit into a trend. The public appearance of clothes by celebrities made the brand famous almost instantly. Madonna was the first big break through celebrity endorsement for the company. Later, in 2004, the velour tracksuit once again became very popular among celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton[6]. Juicy Couture then became a brand known around the world for the image of being the outfit of the “new money.” [7] Juicy Couture, which was a very limited brand being available at very few locations until the late 2000s, established exclusive boutiques and flagship stores.Type : Subsidiary
